Introducing… @kaylwattsdots

blog August 16, 2016

Well hi there! It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I can’t even recall the last time I typed something that was relaxed and a simple stream of thought as opposed to essays and reviews and trying v. hard to sound intellectual (because one day, I would actually like to get paid for having an awesome opinion).

And that’s where a big portion of my energy has been spent as of late; trying to up my writing game. It’s important to me, and I want to get paid for my writing work sooner or later because that has always been a goal of mine. I’ve written some pieces this year that I have been really proud of which I’ll link below, which is a great achievement when compared to last year, when I could barely write at all. I think I wrote a handful of things all year, whereas this year I’ve made a real effort to churn content out.

A great place to keep up with all of that – if you’re keen – is my writing portfolio, What Kayleigh Said. There’s essays and reviews of film and music mainly. I also started a film and tv blog POST-MODERN SLEAZE, because I’ve been listening to shedloads of Kermode and Mayo and Nerdist and Red Letter Media and Empire etc etc and I can do just as good as that – ofc! Potential podcasting awaits also. Watch this space!

You may have noticed that I have claimed POST-MODERN SLEAZE URLs on various commerce sites such as Etsy, Society6 and Big Cartel; that’s because I intend to create artsy things that tie in with all of that awesome content! We’re talking film and TV/science fiction nerdiness woop woop! I’d also like to make zines!

But first I need to try and up my following, which is a big part of why I’ve made an Instagram account specifically for my art. It’s @kaylwattsdots – a stroke of genius if I do say so myself! I’m going to try hard to complete a piece once a week, even if it’s a general sketch or something more “put together”. I’d appreciate any support, likes or follows that you’re willing to give!

If you’re reading this, then I’d just like to thank you for your interest, however large or small that may be. And talking of interest, here’s those links:

That’s all for now; I’ll try not to make it so long between ramblings, eh!

Ciao x

Watch The Throne: Game Of Thrones – “Sons Of The Harpy” (Season 5 Episode 4)

Film & TV, Small Screen, Watch The Throne May 4, 2015

Always disclaimer, disclaimer always. This post is SPOILER BOUND, read at your peril!

Sons Of The Harpy

Anyone up to date on proceedings must have been waiting in with baited breath hoping to know what happened to our favourite bitter fugitive last week when disgraced knight Jorah Mormont swept him away like a, um, thief in the night. But what kind of thief, and to which Queen is he delivering him? Turns out Tyrion’s luck is, for once, in check, as Jorah plans on rowing him all the way to Meereen in hopes of reacquainting himself with Daenerys. Not that the two are on good terms; after correctly guessing Jorah’s identity, the knight swiftly shuts him up with the back of his hand. Either way, Cersei’s platter will have to wait for his head a while longer yet.

The High Sparrow

In Braavos’ House of Black and White, Arya is sweeping to earn her keep. Riling various people up with her wanting to know everything whilst knowing nothing (she is related to Jon Snow, after all), Jaqen states ‘a girl must become no one’ and instructs she must stop being Arya before he can offer her any of his wisdom. She throws all of her possessions into the ocean but balks when it comes to her sword Needle, instead hiding it in the rocks. No doubt it will come in handy in the future. Her first initiation in the ways of the faceless men begins shortly, with her cleaning duties extending to bathing a corpse…

Sunday Portrait #1

Art, Sunday Portrait April 26, 2015

New feature alert!

Recently, I’ve been making a conscious effort to get back into art. I know I’ve said it before, but it’s definitely something I miss and have not done enough of since dropping the subject at AS Level. It kinda sucks when a teacher manages to ruin your experience of a subject you love. This particular teacher even managed to lose half of my years work – to say I was miffed it an understatement!
