It’s time to Shake The Shack!

Out & About July 11, 2014

Do you consider yourself one of the coolest cats around? The sort that just can’t cope with the sludge of the modern day charts crammed with dub step, One Direction and crappy R’n’B? It’s all too much to bear, isn’t it? Never fear however, for now you’ve a new home in the wonderful Shake The Shack!

Curated by Mazzy Snape (of Chicks Dig Jerks and Hott Date) and Rachel Plant (of Madame Moonshine’s Speakeasy), Shake The Shack brings the best of the ’50’s to Birmingham’s renowned Custard Factory thanks to Alfie Bird’s and it’s conjoined sister venue, The Oobleck. If you love some good old rock’n’roll, then drag your rockabilly guys and girls along for the fun on July 19th and swing the night away.

Of couse, this isn’t just your average night out on the town where you bop along to songs you sort of know whilst watching the DJ on the decks – there’s live music too! The thirst of purists will be sated thanks to fast-paced rockabilly movers and shakers The Straight Aces mixing up their set with original songs and covers of authentic rockabilly classics – be sure to check them out below!

Double-basses at the ready, alongside The Straight Aces, support comes from The Frenzies who add their love of wild, surf-tinged rockabilly to the party! Pair the live music with a trio of stellar DJ’s including Club Primitive, T-Bird of Swampmeat and Takin’ Care Of Business, the lovely Sugarfoot Stomp and Makeout Mazzy, better known of course as Chicks Dig Jerks. It’s going to be a full-on manic whirl of a night where the sofas are pushed back, the lights are dimmed and the spinning doesn’t stop until the music does – and with the doors being open til late, who knows when that will be?
